An AFS Access or Independence Membership can provide you and your family members with Accidental Death Benefits (ADB). The Common Carrier benefit will be paid in lieu of any other benefits for Accidental Death.

Common Carrier Accidental Death pays a benefit if you suffer an accidental death while in, entering or exiting a motorized land, water or air conveyance, operated by an organization other than the Policyholder; organized and licensed for the transportation of passengers for hire and operated by an employee or an individual under contract.

In the event of an emergency, Independence Members receive up to $200 in ambulance coverage for actual expenses incurred for the use of the Ground Ambulance Service Benefit. Emergency Helicopter Transportation benefit provides coverage for medical evacuation or return or mortal remains if injury or illness occurs while such person is more than one (1) mile from his/her primary residence. The medical evacuation or repatriation must be ordered by a physician or local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel.

The following benefits are available to AFS Members at no additional cost when traveling 100 or more miles from home:

  • Medical Consultation - Calls to Assist America are evaluated by medical staff and referred to English-speaking doctors and/or hospitals.
  • Hospital Admission Assistance - Assist America will assist with hospital admission outside the United States by validating a member's health coverage or advancing funds to the hospital.
  • Emergency Medical Evacuation - Assist America will utilize whatever mode of transport, equipment and medical personnel necessary to evacuate you to the nearest facility capable of providing a high standard of care.
  • Medical Repatriation - If a member still requires medical assistance upon being discharged from a hospital, Assist America will repatriate him/her home or to a rehabilitation facility with a medical or non-medical escort, as necessary.

  • Compassionate Visit - If a member is traveling alone and will be hospitalized for more than seven days, Assist America will provide economy, round-trip, common carrier transportation to the place of hospitalization for a designated family member or friend.
  • Care of Minor Children - Assist America will arrange for the care of children left unattended as a result of a medical emergency and pay for any transportation costs involved in such arrangements.

Call Assist America in the event of an emergency. All services must be arranged and provided by Assist America. No claims for reimbursement will be accepted.

Many other services are available, including emergency trauma counseling, legal referrals, return of mortal remains and much more.

All Assist America services are subject to certain restrictions and are outlined in detail in the Assist America Medical Transport Summary (which supersedes all prior Assist America/Care by Air information). It can be a financial strain to be hospitalized for any length of time due to an accident. As an Independence Member, you can rest easier knowing that you have a hospital confinement benefit for accidents included as a part of your membership package. In the event of a covered in-patient stay, you and your family's benefit dollars can be used wherever you need it the most.

Day(s) of Confinement means a day of hospital confinement as an inpatient.

AFS Independence Membership provides you and your spouse* with Member and Dependent Group Term Life Insurance Coverage from Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (MetLife). No additional contribution is required in order for this insurance protection to be provided.

Member Term Life Insurance Coverage

  • Primary Member - $5,000

A 120-day waiting period is required. At age 60 group life insurance benefits reduce 75% and then cancel at age 65. In certain circumstances a conversion privilege to an individual policy may apply (subject to changes from group coverage in terms and conditions including changes in premium costs).

Members may designate a beneficiary for their life insurance benefits by filling out and returning a Beneficiary Designation Form.

Coverage is provided through a group life insurance policy issued by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, New York, N.Y. MEDPro provides prescription assistance services to individuals and families in need of relief from paying retail costs for medications. Many individuals and families without prescription coverage, limited prescription coverage or having a medical hardship, have difficulty paying for their medications and don’t know where to get help. Prescription Assistance Programs alone cannot solve all the problems facing the uninsured or underinsured but it can help ease the financial burden many face with the high cost of prescription medications.

You can count on MEDPro to:

  • Conduct an initial evaluation of your particular situation
  • Match your individual prescriptions to the appropriate programs
  • Review and verify the eligibility requirements for each program
  • Let you know the options and recommend the programs that meet your needs

With the MEDPro program Association members will have access to over 4,000 medications – 70% more than MEDPro’s competitors. Medications are purchased in a 90 day supply but some are available in a 30 day supply.

Qualification is based on income and when you apply you will receive a complimentary case evaluation. The approval process takes 24 - 48 hours. Once approved in the program, there will be a one-time setup fee of $25 . You will next receive an enrollment packet to complete and return to MedPro. When MedPro receives your completed enrollment forms, the remainder of the enrollment process takes 4 to 6 weeks. The program is ongoing for 12 months, after which time you will need to re-enroll* and re-verify income. An administrative fee of $20 per medication will be charged each month.
